CPR Classes Offered by AFD

AFD offers American Heart Association CPR Courses!

Alvaton Fire Department offers a variety of American Heart Association CPR courses to organizations, businesses and the public.  Descriptions for each course are listed below.  Contact AFD for further information and pricing.

BLS for Healthcare Provider

This course is for healthcare professionals who need to know how to perform CPR, as well as other lifesaving skills, in a wide variety of in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings.  This course will include the following:

  • Key changes in basic life support, reflecting the new science from the 2010 American Heart Association Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care
  • Critical concepts for high-quality CPR
  • The American Heart Association Chain of Survival
  • 1-Rescuer CPR and AED for adult, child and infant
  • 2-Rescuer CPR and AED for adult, child and infant
  • Differences between adult, child and infant rescue techniques
  • Bag-mask techniques for adult, child and infant
  • Rescue breathing for adult, child and infant
  • Relief of choking for adult, child and infant
  • CPR with an advanced airway (this is an introductory to the compression/ventilation rate and ratio for a patient who has an advanced airway in place).

The BLS for Healthcare Providers Course Completion Card is valid for two years.  A student manual is required.  The manual is available for purchase from Alvaton Fire Department, PRIOR to your scheduled class.


Heartsaver CPR AED

This classroom course teaches basic CPR skills such as performing a head tilt-chin lift and giving compressions and breaths.  This course will include the following:

  • Adult CPR and AED use
  • Key changes reflecting the new science from the 2010 American Heart Association Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care
  • Optional modules in child CPR and AED use and infant CPR, including child and infant choking
  • Optional written test

The Heartsaver CPR/AED Course Completion Card is valid for two years.  A student manual is required.  If your organization does not have a current copy available, the manual will be available for purchase from Alvaton Fire Department for $15.00 each, PRIOR to your scheduled class.

 

Heartsaver First Aid

Heartsaver First Aid is a classroom, video-based, instructor-led course that teaches students critical skills to respond to and manage an emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services (EMS) arrives.

  • First aid basics (including scene safety, finding the problem, calling for help and more)
  • Medical emergencies (including actions for choking, breathing problems, shock and more)
  • Injury emergencies (including actions for bleeding, broken bones, burns and more)
  • Environmental emergencies (including actions for bites and stings, temperature-related and poison emergencies)

The Heartsaver First Aid Course Completion Card is valid for two years.  A student manual is required.  The manual is available for purchase from Alvaton Fire Department PRIOR to your scheduled class.

 

Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED

This course combines the content of the Heartsaver CPR/AED and the Heartsaver First Aid courses (see above for descriptions).  The Heartsaver First Aid CPR/AED Course Completion Card is valid for two years.  A student manual is required.  The manual is available for purchase from Alvaton Fire Department PRIOR to your scheduled class.

 

Heartsaver PEDIATRIC First Aid CPR AED

The Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid CPR AED course is designed to meet the regulatory requirements for child care workers in all 50 United States.  It teaches child care providers and others to respond and manage illnesses and injuries in a child or infant in the first few minutes until professional help arrives.  It covers the four steps of first aid and first aid skills such as finding the problem, stopping bleeding, bandaging and using an Epinephrine pen, as well as child CPR AED, infant CPR and optional modules in adult CPR AED, child mask, infant mask and Asthma Care Training for Child Care Providers.

The Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid and CPR/AED Course Completion Card is valid for two years.   A student manual is required.  The manual is available for purchase from Alvaton Fire Department PRIOR to your scheduled class.
