Recruitment
2018 Recruitment is OPEN!
Program Overview
The Alvaton Fire Department Recruit Academy is a 6 month process preparing men and women to become certified firefighters. The class meets one night per week and one Saturday per month for six months. The classes are a healthy balance between classroom instruction and hands-on experience. All classes follow the standards set forth by the nationally recognized “International Fire Service Accreditation Congress.”
All recruits are expected to attend every class. The academy is a great time commitment and the instructors strive to make the classes fun, provocative, and engaging. At the end of the academy, every recruit will have a firm grasp of the IFSAC skills and a comprehension of the material presented in each chapter. In addition to preparing the recruit to take the nationally recognized IFSAC skills and written tests each student will also complete the required 150 hours of training to become a Kentucky certified firefighter, the IFSAC Hazardous Materials Awarness Level Certification, and IFSAC Hazardous Materials Operations Level Certification. Alvaton is very proud of its Recruit Academy and we are confident in each firefighter’s abilities that successfully complete the program.
